Spring Picnics

The first hint of freedom from lockdown we had was being able to go on a picnic.  Even though venues are open again, spring in Sydney means we can grab a bunch of friends, family, loved ones and the dog, and go to one of the many beautiful picnic spots that our great city has to offer.  Picnics can be simple & relaxed, luxurious & decadent or as big or small as you desire.  The choice is yours.

The hardest thing to start with is location because we are so spoiled for choice in Sydney.  With parks, beaches, harbours & bays, bushwalks and riversides a-plenty to choose from, you need to work hard to make a decision.

Whatever you choose, remember a picnic can be set-up anywhere, even in your backyard or in your home – who says picnics need to be outside?!  When unexpected rain happens, it’s just as fun to just move the whole thing to an indoor venue, forget about the dining table and throw the picnic rug down on the floor.  Depending how many people you are inviting, parking should be a consideration, or proximity to public transport.

You’ll need the obvious items like cutlery, plates, glasses, a table, blankets, cushions etc if you want to go all out and create a luxury type picnic experience, but if you want something easy to manage, you could always buy or hire a picnic basket kit (like the service we offer at Potts Point Providore), and fill it with your favourite eats, add your preferred vino and bubbles, invite some friends and head out! The picnic basket kits come with a picnic basket kitted out with glassware, plates, cutlery, bottle opener, frozen ice brick & picnic blanket. It’s always best to reserve them ahead of time so you don’t miss out.

You don’t always want to prep too much or bring food that needs to be cut, plated up or cooked to a picnic. Some people are just born to cook up picnic fare, and others are born to keep it as simple as possible. It’s easy to buy sandwiches, pre-made cheeseboards, sushi platters, salads etc to keep things simple. Potts Point Providore have a delicious array of sandwiches, baguettes, salads, poke bowls, and wraps that are delivered fresh daily by our caterers that you can pop into your picnic basket. Keeping things simple can make picnics for those who don’t like the fuss of prep easy and not stressful. Being able to get everything you’ll need in the one store from food, basket, to booze means one stop and then off to your picnic spot!

But if organising a picnic no matter how simple still sounds like a chore, businesses like To Dine For offer services like setting up a simple or luxurious picnic for you and your friends with or without catering, in some of Sydney’s prettiest locations. The best bit? Once you’re done, they clean everything up for you too!

And remember, at the end of the day, the best picnic ingredients are the company, drink you love and some good food to share.  So don’t overthink it, just go out there and have some fun.
