The glistening pearl on our spirits shelves | mother of pearl vodka

Mother of Pearl Vodka | Featured Local Business

The Australian vodka sector has been shaken up with the arrival of a new, premium grape-based vodka. In Australia, Mother of Pearl Vodka landed earlier this year on store shelves and behind bars and will soon be available in international hotels and airport lounges. Currently gracing the front windows at our Darlinghurst, Paddington & Bayswater Fine Wine stores, we love bringing this premium local product to our members & customers. Based locally near our Surry Hills store, we think they’re the perfect brand to feature - we love supporting local, Australian small businesses…especially when the quality doesn’t come with a huge retail price point.

Distilled from late-picked premium grapes

Mother of Pearl Vodka is distilled from premium Australian Pinot Gris grapes from Victoria's world-class Mornington Peninsula and South Australia's Limestone Coast, unlike most vodkas that are made from grain, corn or starch-like potatoes. With a mature multi-level distillation process and a unique filtration process, the grapes are picked late to ensure a smooth neutral base and a subtle creaminess.

Mother of Pearl Vodka has been created by Australian entrepreneurs Nic Hancock and Nicola Thompson-Hancock with great care and attention to detail.

Mother of Pearl Vodka CEO Nic Hancock: “We’re incredibly proud and excited to be launching Mother of Pearl Vodka. Our ambitious founding team’s determination to refine our distilling and filtration process, through our 1000 litre still “Elaine”, using premium Victorian and South Australian Pinot Gris grapes and pure Australian spring waters, has created a fresh youthful pearl-like neutral finish, appealing to a discerning palate and creating the perfect vodka base for mixologists.”

Women's palates are genetically more discerning than men's, so Mother of Pearl Vodka is designed specifically with them in mind. Several studies have shown that women have more tastebuds than men, with more than a third of women being "supertasters," who perceive stronger tastes and more oral irritation. Besides being low in calories and carbs, Mother of Pearl is also a great choice for anyone with allergies or intolerances.

Mother of Pearl Vodka partnered with Melbourne Distilling Co to create this new spirit.

Director Stephen Barrand says the experience exceeded all expectations: “Taking Mother of Pearl Vodka from conception to bottle has been an amazing journey and like no other that I know of. Nic and Nicola’s vision of the brand, the look and feel, how it’s positioned and importantly the makeup of the final product was clear from our first conversation and hasn’t wavered.”

Sustainability meets sophisticated design

While maintaining a sophisticated, elegant, memorable style, Mother of Pearl Vodka's packaging is sustainable and environmentally friendly. A removable sleeve keeps the bottle clean and encourages recycling, a buy-back scheme with hospitality venues, airlines, cruise lines, or repurposing it for water and juices in both hospitality and at home.
