Mardi Gras 2022 | The Show Must Go On!
For 44 years the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade has taken place. This year is no exception and like last year the wonderful organisers have adapted it to the COVID-19 environment.
According to the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras website:
“The safety and health of our communities is always our paramount concern. The Parade brings together people from across Australia, regional and remote areas, young and old and we have a duty of care and responsibility to make sure we can provide the safest environment for all.”
Like last year there is not the traditional Mardi Gras Parade on Oxford Street with the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) again the the best option to ensure the celebration (and not a cancellation).
Excitingly, the plan is to return to Oxford Street for its 45th anniversary in 2023 alongside Sydney WorldPride, which will be the first WorldPride in the southern hemisphere.
United We Shine
United We Shine is this year’s theme and our Surry Hills store, Darlinghurst Fine Wines, has long been a shining and buzzing hub of activity during Mardi Gras - especially on Parade Day.
This year, our regulars and visiting Mardi Gras revellers can again look forward to a thumping visit to have a boogie alongside our team whilst stocking up on bevvies for Parade Day and the duration of the festival. We also have some extra fun planned outside of Parade Day…hope you can join us!
Unlike the picture shown here, taken on Parade Day in a pre-Covid world, we will be again limiting patrons to a safe capacity, but will have enough team members working to ensure fast service as always. We ask all visitors to the store to bring a mask…who knows, perhaps your Mardi Gras garb will include some fabulous glittery, sequined shining mask or perhaps something in black leather ;)
Drag Queen Selfie STAND with Eastside Sydney
Want to get into the spirit & strut your stuff with a fabulous Drag Queen? On Saturday February 26th we have teamed up with the wonderful people at Eastside Sydney and from 12-4pm there will be a Drag Queen/Selfie Stand set up out the front of the store. Come, flash your pearlies, pout your fullest out and get your snaps! Don’t forget to tag @neighbourhoodcellars on socials for a feature!
